The victim worked at Adelitas in Tijuana’s Red Light district and was reported to have been in a relationship with her killer
Last Wednesday night a woman was murdered at a bar on Avenida Coahuila in the Zona Norte area of Tijuana and 26 year old Logan Kelley, a US citizen and former collegiate basketball star, will be charged with her murder.
The man set to be formally arraigned had commented to some of the bar employees that he was also a US marine, but we have been unable to confirm those reports at this time.
Kelley is also accused of sexually exploiting the victim who is reported to have been a victim of human trafficking.
The murder victim – identified as Isis Italia Montoya Romero – was only 19 years old and had been in a relationship with her accused assassin.
The accused first met the victim in the Mexican state of Hidalgo four years ago and is the father of her three year old son.
It is reported that sometime last year he arranged to have the victim and their son relocated to Tijuana where he found them an apartment and forced her to work as a prostitute at the Adelitas bar.
Alleged assailant: college basketball star
Logan Kelley, originally from Ohio, played college basketball at the University of Montevallo in Alabama where he was considered one of the better players. He reportedly told some of the bouncers at Adelitas that he was a candidate for the 2017 NBA draft.
How his life went downhill from there, it’s hard to say.
Short and deadly timeline
The murder occurred shortly after 9 PM at the bar located on Avenida Coahuila in the Zona Norte neighborhood during working hours and while customers were still in the establishment.
The young victim was seen walking through the hallways to the private rooms of the bar, accompanied by Kelley and her 3-year-old son just moments before being attacked from behind by her son’s father, reported to have thrust a knife into her neck.
